Keeping the navigation clean

How young people are looking after the waterways

There have been two recent clean-up operations on the Driffield Canal, carried out by canoeists and kayakers, many of them under sixteen. The first clean-up took place on Sunday 29th April, 2018 and the second on Saturday 12th May. The participants came from various clubs such as the Scarborough Canoe Club, Kingston Kayak Club and the East Yorkshire Canoe Club and also numbered some independent people. The first of the clean-ups was organised by Ken Oliver and the second by Leigh Tovey. A large amount of rubbish was removed, in spite of previous clean-up efforts carried out over the years. What a pity not every member of the community is as litter conscious and public spirited as these upright young citizens. Well done all concerned! Below are pictures of the teams.
